Pierced open work jalis, extremely comfortable chairs and sofas, subtle touches like the damask table runners with their patterns of white on white chinar leaves, lamps made out of Kashmiri basketry - the interior designer of Raasta Tarami deserves a pat on the back for knowing what touches to add and when to stop. Quite apart from the food, the interiors of Tarami, with their tonal variations of the mud-wood theme are outstanding, and would evoke the mood of the Valley to anyone who knows it well. After cringing through various hotel food festivals where houseboat and shikara prototypes have been on garish display, it's a relief to see the absence of paper mache ducks and kangaroos!...
